Look up local numbers from your AI assistant
October 2026
I'm Bill Quimby. If you use Claude or another AI assistant, it can look up who has a phone number here directly: which phone company was first given it and when, which company has it today, and what that means for getting it. When the number spells a word, it shows numbers like it you can order. It can also set up a notification about a number when you give it your email (you confirm it by email first), including when a phone company is given the block for a number nobody can get yet. It can't buy anything. Every answer links back here.
Add it to Claude
In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors. Click + Add, then Add custom connector, name it NewLocalNumbers.com, paste this address, and choose No sign in:
https://newlocalnumbers.com/mcp
On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds it once under Organization settings, then Connectors.
Other assistants
Any assistant that lets you add an MCP server by its address can use the same one, such as Perplexity on its paid plans. Developers can add it in Cursor, VS Code or Gemini CLI.
What it answers
- Check a number: any phone number, local or toll free: which phone company was first given its block and when, which company has it today, each company's page here, and what that means for getting it. When the number spells a word (512-725-5387 is 512-PALLETS), it also shows numbers like it you can order: local ones in its area first, then toll free.
- Get a notification: give it your email and it sets one up, which you confirm by email first: the number and every version of it in its state, with a check each month of whether it's still in use, and, if no phone company has its block yet, word when one is given it, so you can be first to ask that company for the number. When you confirm, I send you what I have on it now; after that, I email you on the 15th when it or a related number has changed, and every three months to say it's still on. Toll free numbers too. VanityNumbers.com sends them. Once your notification is confirmed, your assistant can include your email when it looks something up for you: my suggestions fit what you're looking for, and for a number you get your own, larger allowance of lookups and whether it's in use.
Good to know
The block records come from NALENND®, the North American Local Exchange NPA NXX Database from Quentin Sager Consulting, and each answer says how far they run. Lookups are one at a time, with daily limits. My privacy page explains what I keep.
