About USFON

USFon is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) founded in 2008 by University of Texas at Austin law students to provide affordable broadband and voice services primarily to low-income housing, rural educational institutions, municipalities, and healthcare organizations in Texas. It targets underserved rural and low-income populations as well as mission-driven entities seeking competitive communications solutions. As a small-scale CLEC, it operates niche projects like dark fiber connectivity for universities and broadband for rural community colleges, holding one state-level OCN and 134 thousand-number blocks.
